Right now

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

These are the words that are foremost in my blog right now….

I see that journal is a pretty big one there – yikes.  I don’t know why I suck at journaling on paper.  I could go on and on about my life, my feelings, my art, etc online in my blog, but put when I try putting it on paper I clam up.  Maybe because I can type it as quick as I think it, and writing when a pen aggravates the whole carpal tunnel thing.  Doing it on paper would be better because I could be more free… online everything is edited beyond original intent because my friends read my blog.  Oh well.

Speaking of journals… I’ll be getting 2 set up for my son and his best friend.  My son is in desperate need of a lifestyle make-over, and since his best friend practically lives here, he wants to do it too.  Tyler (my son) is a typical teenager… loves to eat junk, stays up too late, etc but it’s gone to a whole new level and it’s affecting is life in a detrimental way – so I’m going to whip him into shape, LOL.  I’ve got a 3 month plan that I’m hoping will be ‘new habbits’ after that time.  I’ll keep you posted.

Getting my homework done

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

Well you know me and journals… I love to collect them, but I’m not good at keeping at it.  I guess I’ll have to make an exception for art goddess Suzi Blu.  For Suzi Blu… I would do anything ;)

Part of our homework is to create a healing art journal.  Nuturing our feelings while we do our art is important to Suzi, so the journal is required.  I made mine from paper bags, binding it with those circluar binder clips so I can add more pages if needed (ha!), and tying it up with fun ribbons.  The built in pockets from the opening of the bags lends itself to tucking in my sketches, poems, or whatever.  Fun!

Oh check out that clear ribbon in the last pic… that’s new in my shop! (shameless plug)

A new sketch

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

I’m still working on shading… I find it hard to do with pencil… I’m used to doing it with paint – which slides around and can be more transparent.  Pencil is so…. ‘right there’… and not very cooperative with me.  I am liking my girly faces more and more though.

At peace in the little jade forest

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

I wish I was with this little man, in this jade forest.  It seems so peaceful and quiet.  I bet he could tell me how to heal the turmoil I am going through.

These shots were taken at my friend Sandy’s house.  I walk past this twice a day, going to work and leaving work – and it makes me smile every time I see it.  I was cleaning pics off my camera tonight and found these on there.

I love her drips

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

Lisa’s signature look is ‘drippy’.  If you have seen her other videos you will notice the flowers drip, the moons drip, etc.  It’s really cool.  In this video Lisa paints a fairy house with drippy window frames.  I had a naked birdhouse that’s been hanging out for 2 years, waiting to be painted.  After I saw her fairy house, I knew I had to try it.  It was fun trying a new technique while I ‘lifted’ her idea.  ((Don’t worry – it’s just for me – I’m not selling it or anything))

Here is  my little house…

Her name is Suzi Blu

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

Her name is Suzi Blu and she’s been my inspiration for about a year.  I’ve been following her videos on youtube… each week… watching her quirky vlogs (video blog) that expose her personallyality and artistry.  I knew on the spot I wanted to be in her class when she announced it, and just finishing off week 1, I am not disappointed.

After just finishing “All About Faces” class with Paulette Insall a few months ago – I decided to take Suzi’s Les Petite Dolls class also because she has such a different style.  I learned SO MUCH in Paulette’s class… good technical stuff that has given me an awesome foundation and the best part of her class, for me, was learning to mix my own flesh tone paint!  I knew that Suzi’s class would offer her unique ways, and to be honest, I would have been happy to just soak in her ‘energy’ and I figured at the very least I could kick ass in pictionary after this, lol.  I really didn’t know what to expect, but I knew it would have the Suzi Blu touch on it.

Well I could not be more happy and it’s only week one.  On the technical side, we are learning to sketch ‘Suzi Style’ which is so fun… and shading with pencil has just begun.  I’m a ‘paint’ shader – I never bother to shade my sketches in with pencil because for one, I thought ‘why bother’ when I’m going to cover it in paint anyway and two… I didn’t know how!  Learning how and where is just too cool.  BUT THE BEST part of it so far are Suzi’s Affirmation pdfs.  It’s like having her here, cheering me on and giving me that personal support.  It’s priceless.  We also get great Lesson notes in pdf every week, and Suzi’s videos every two weeks (although we got treated to an extra one already this week).  And the nicest part is that it’s downloadable to view over and over again.  Suzi has it all set up on ning.com so there’s also the closeness of hangin’ with all the other students, online there.  Everyone is each others best cheer leader – it’s great.

I’ve suffered from a migraine all week, so I have done minimal sketching, but that’s the other cool part, it’s a self paced class and if you take it slow, it’s ok and Suzi will still be there throughout.  I need a t-shirt that says I heart Suzi Blu!

Folk art is a fun style… it’s relaxed and fun and you don’t have to worry about being so precise.  You can see my ‘baby step’ sketches here… just click and it will take you over.

a Very Plain Martin of my very own

Monday, August 11th, 2008

The softies on Etsy are incredible… and I’ve been a fan of SweetNellie‘s for a while.  While being such a cat person, I couldn’t help but fall in love with Very Plain Martin.  I finally got one, and he’s the cutest thing ever.  Look at his cute hat!!  I have him sitting atop my couch and my kitties have taken a few naps next too him… he’s even irresistible to them!
