Blog updates & Letting go

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

Blog updates:
I really should know better than to start a blog update at 9pm… I upgraded my version and it went horribly wrong.  I thought I was being smart by downloading a back-up copy, was but not smart enough to test it.  When the version upgrade took a tanker, I went to restore and my back-up had an error and was useless.  I spent till 5am this morning trying to fix it and ended up paying $30 to my server for use of their back-up copy and found out, they saved it just as I screwed it up!  They don’t offer refunds for failed attempts, so I’m out the 30 bucks and had to re-intall, export, import, and re-upload myself.  Obviously I don’t make smart money decisions after midnight, lol.  That’s why I don’t watch late night infomercials ;)

I’m digg’n my new theme… I’m tweaking the pics to make it my own (like adding the raven), and will be doing more this weekend, if my eyes regain focus after staying up all night.  After going to bed at 5, I had to be up by 7 to get my kid out the door to work, and of course I couldn’t fall back asleep.  I’m feeling a good afternoon nap coming on :)

Letting go:
I have decided to let go of my “Fly Free” assemblage box.  It’s on etsy.  I put it up there last night, and now I’m feeling regret, but that’s ok.  I need to let go of more stuff I create, otherwise how will it ever get out there in the world?  I have recent paintings from my Suzy Blu class that I have no room for too.  I love them, but I’ve told myself that if I don’t have wall space, I must free it from sitting on a shelf.  Got any space for art that needs a good great home?  Check out my Etsy page if you want a little piece of my artful soul.

Finding clarity in the car wash

Saturday, September 20th, 2008

Ideas, realizations, and decisions can happen anywhere… at any moment.  Today, as the salty sea haze and sand  were rinsed away from my car, my cluttered and hectic mind was also cleared.   Sitting inside my car, unable to see out for all the spray swirling around me, was the most relaxing few moments I’ve had in a long time.  It was like the world had gone away…. it was just me and the surges of water… 5 minutes felt like 5 hours and the colored foam surrounded me like cotton candy.  For as many fluffy puffs of colored suds, new thoughts and ideas came too.  Damn, that was mighty fine car wash!

. . .

There will be some huge changes coming… to my business mostly.  I’m not going to carry the store anymore, in the traditional sense anyway.  I want to use my spare time to concentrate on more art, and I think I’ll put more project based kits/supplies up, instead of trying to keep stock of so much different stuff.  More to come later….

Also, I have a new idea for my blog!  I used to love doing ‘Studio Friday‘, but since it’s no longer live, I have come up with something kinda similar, yet different and a little more diverse.  More details on that will come this weekend – so stay tuned!!!  I’m really excited about it.

That darn cat

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

So I’m sitting at my computer… uploading pics off my camera and I see a flash run by me, with a whole lot of noise…. It’s got to be Goliath, our kitten with enough spunk for four cats. And it was… my son had been the dentist and you know that little bag of goodies they send you home with? The toothbrush, flosser and mouth wash, in the ‘irresistible’ crinkly celo bags? Goliath (who steals everything, and runs with it) had hopped up on the table and snagged this bag and was dragging it through the house (it was too big for him to carry) at the speed of sound. He’s nuts.

Here’s his new sleeping spot…

So happy

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

I’m so happy that I’m in Suzi’s class…. I’m not only getting so much out of it, but it’s giving me the reason/excuse to get some studio time in.

Check out my slide show of the steps in creating a painting on the birch plywood.  CLICK HERE for the”full screen” version to get the best view.

And this one, waiting for a few more layers and some beeswax:

A typical weekend…

Pina Colada from Waterfront Depot

Pina Colada from Waterfront Depot

For the most part, this weekend was pretty typical – go out for a bite/drink on Friday night, bit of creative time (worked on more sketches for Suzi’s class), spent at least one day in bed fighting a migraine.  I could use more fun and less headaches!!

This is a long weekend so I was blessed with an extra day.  I used it to bake!  I made carrot cake with fresh organic carrots (have oodles from my veggie deliveries) and I also threw in some coconut, pineapple, and walnuts.  It turned out too sweet for me, but my son loves it.  I love the icing made with cream cheese and pineapple juice.

After getting warmed up I decided to bake bread!  I’m digging my new kitchenaid and have’t used it for bread yet… and was itching to try out that dough hook.  It did a great job!  I made herb bread with garlic, thyme, dill and fresh parsley with cheddar, monteray jack, and asiago on top -  YUM!herb bread and rolls/buns
