I love living at the coast because it just smells so good. Every morning I wake up and open the door and I can smell the water, the greens, the flowers… it’s just so inspiring. The only downside to where I live is while the rest of country is in a heat wave… we’ve had one day of ‘heat’. It reached a ‘whopping’ 86 degrees for one day. Don’t laugh, I know you are all melting in the heat, but for a gal who loves summer…. I would love a little heat once in a while. It’s either so windy you feel like your face will fly off, or the fog rolls in off the beach and wonder if your capris were a smart choice or not. If you drive just a half hour inland, it’s in the triple digits, but there, it’s about 68 degrees. When I wake up and the air is still, I grab the dog and we run to beach, pronto!

Summer smells good

Monday, June 1st, 2009smell the flowers, smell the ocean air… smell the rain
Every morning when I get up, I open up my front door to spy the sky for the day’s weather and lately the air is filled with flowers and green. It’s so heavenly, I wish I could bottle it for winter.
Work has been crazy, not only is it busy, but I’m redoing the site, starting with the shopping cart. I’ve been creating, testing, reworking graphics for days…. yesterday I took a couple of hours to go look at the waves, and breathe in the fresh, salty air… after looking at the computer screen for so many hours… I was going buggy.
As I write this, there is a fantastic thunder storm going on. I’m sitting outside with my laptop, watching the light show and listening to the echoing thunder. I just love a good storm. The lightning is getting closer and closer… you can smell the ozone. I can feel the floor rumbling beneath me.
I was asked to submit an application to join a local co-op gallery. I think I should because it would be really good for me… if you know me, you know I tend to tuck into my shell like a little turtle, lol. It will keep me on top of my creative time – get me mingling with my artsy friends that I should be staying in touch with, etc etc.
I guess I’ll find out tomorrow night if I’m ‘in’.
Not a snow day, a hurricane day!
Monday, December 3rd, 2007We got up and did our usual morning routine and headed out the door, but the streets looked like a ghost town and all the schools were closed because of a hurricane warning. Winds gusting above 125mph, intense rain, and swelling seas wash into the shore. Lots of power lost… our has gone off and on all day. Here’s a local news story. We are pretty lucky in Florence actually…. the rest of the coast seems to have lots of damage.
Snow Day …. Charms & Headache Free
Monday, January 15th, 2007Last Thursday we had a snow day! Oh ya – we got a whole 2 inches and the town was in a tizzy and canceled school. They just have no idea what snow is around…. it NEVER happens. Sometime we get slushy snow mixed with rain, but it never never sticks on the ground, so to wake up last Thursday and this was amazing!
I was so sick with my damn headache, I wasn’t able to go driving around to take pics of the dunes or anything, which was a drag, but I was happy to know it was there.
So yesterday (Sunday) was my fist day, migraine free, in almost a week! I just had the best time finishing up my charms for the other charm swap. Tyler spent the whole day with me (instead of being in his room hooked up to his headphones and guitars), so I was sheer heaven. After spending the entire day taping and soldering I hopped online to read my mail, surf the net, catch up on some blogs and even managed to crank out the two scrapbook pages for the snow and charms in photoshop! I was a little too excited and stayed up till 4:30 this morning playing, but I don’t care – it’s the first day I have felt like myself in weeks!!!
Here are my charms… I had made up the pic with brushes in photoshop, punched them out and stuck them to the glass pebbles earlier, so all I had to do was wrap them in copper tape and solder them up, but it took pretty much all day because I did quite a bit more than the 25 needed for the shop, since I knew that some of them might would be duds. I am not a master solderer, so I always make extra ;)
Forget the rain dance… is there a snow dance?
Sunday, November 26th, 2006Can you say WINDY?
Wednesday, November 15th, 2006Last Sunday night it was soooooo windy… it was actually pulling water back up the drain, through the vents in the ceiling. There was this rumble and gurgle going on in the sink with every gust… it was the water swishing around in the drain pipes, from the wind action on the roof. Crazy yes, but it gets crazier…. The wind was so strong, it blew some of the railings off at Sea Lion Caves. Wowza!
It’s windy again tonight and here’s our storm warning for the beaches, right off www.accuweather.com:
A PACIFIC STORM HAS GENERATED LARGE SEAS THAT ARE IMPACTING THE SOUTH WASHINGTON… NORTH AND CENTRAL OREGON COASTS THIS AFTERNOON.
HIGH SURF CONDITIONS WILL SUBSIDE AFTER A COLD FRONT MOVES ASHORE EARLY THIS EVENING.
IT CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS TO VENTURE NEAR THE COAST UNDER HIGH SURF CONDITIONS. PEOPLE AT TIMES ARE SWEPT OFF ROCKS AND JETTIES AND DROWN WHILE OBSERVING HIGH SURF. STAY WELL BACK FROM THE WATERS EDGE AND BE ALERT FOR THE EXCEPTIONALLY HIGH WAVE.
A HIGH SURF ADVISORY MEANS THAT HIGH SURF WILL AFFECT BEACHES IN
THE ADVISORY AREA…PRODUCING RIP CURRENTS AND LOCALIZED BEACH EROSION.
Time keeps on ticking….
Saturday, September 2nd, 2006August has seriously slipped away in a blink…. and I’m not sure what I’ve done all month – so it really does feel like a blink. I have been on an art break, a blogging break, an everything break. Let’s see, what’s happened since I’ve been online last?
- major immigration issues with my son – I don’t even want to write about that, it’s too exhausting
- my X has just had is 4th biological child with his 3rd wife (technically his 2nd since we were not married, but you know) but he’s really a dad of 5 because his latest wife already had 1. I’m not really wanting to write about that either, since I can’t say anything nice
- yesterday was smoke’n hot here in my chilly town – I was lovin’ that. Ty and I spent the afternoon at the beach
- I said farewell to 5 of my ocean related collage/assemblages. I was asked to have my art hang in a gallery in Burien WA, so I sent them off with wish to sell sell sell. If you happen to be in that neck of the woods, check out Atlantis Designs on 152nd Street.
- had lunch will Mr. FM – listening to his future plans pretty much assured me that the future misses is a smoke screen, for proper appearances sake. Geez.
I’m just chill’n, waiting for my muse to return.
